The 3rd Asst Secretary to the Chiefs of State of the 22nd CT, strolled over to the beverage table, refilling her cup, “As for you. I have some advice. In the future , as you move forward establishing our “new “ relationship with our friends at UFC on planet Setarips……who you will be dealing with daily. If at any time you are in a meeting with any of them. Ask yourself. this one question, “How do I know when they are lying to me? The answer is simply this—- when you see their lips are moving!”
Feeling the steady pressure to be a good host, Captain Mac accepted the fact that now he entertained not two, but three inspectors’ on board ship now. Curse this bureaucratic poppy cock on his destroyer. These people were giving him an ass ache. None of these people probably faced any type of battles or warfare in their little field jobs…..they get micro-managed and then they micro-manages us. Paper pushers. “Make sure you sign that part of the form over there. If so, check this block on the screen here……” Mac’s thoughts calmed, “They have their place in the organization. Just not here. On the Blue Sun. Where are these administrators going to be when it gets hot out here? When the enemy attacks blows holes in the ship’s bulkhead, leaving only 12% shield strength on a whole section of the ship – killing or maiming another 43 or so dead at some other fuselage of the Blue Sun! But,” as reasoning flooded his emotional mind again, taking control. “It’s not their job anyway.”
Remembering when he was a young buck private, in the Space Corps working in a fighter squadron as a munitions specialist, he soon realized his desire to work through the ranks. Finally taking the test, Mac got into Officers’ Candidate School, after 11 years in the Corps. He hit ‘ the School” as it was called as a Master Sergeant. Mustanging his way through ‘the School’, by either going around, under or through each obstacle, Mac graduated the top of the class of 310 candidates. He learned a lot along the way, doing the right thing all the time No matter what. Not just when it was convenient.
Mac lived by a few mantras. ‘Respect the rank, even if you don’t respect the person. ‘His favorite of them all was, ‘ If you don’t make it, take bake it or take it. To the battle field. You must be support!’ And Mac had no problem with the support staff. ‘We all need to eat, get fuel and by the blessed beard of the Star Lord. I want my ammo, when I need it.’ However, with all these inspectors with their inspections, Mac had to ask, “Who’s milking this goat?” First the APEX Regulatory Commission, then the BioSyn Tech group and now……. the psyche field representative. Help Me Star Lord! Help Me! Mac wondered how Anna was going to handle all of this when she got here. This surprise field inspection was not supposed to be like this. They were supposed to be at separate intervals. How are they supposed to receive and extrapolate quality responses in this type of visit?
Before he knew it, there he sat before Dr. Hancera Rense, the psychological evaluation administrator…smiling. Dr. Rense and Mac have been rapport building for over eight months, thus their relationship was based on a solid foundation. An hour later, after much Q&A, they arrived at this point, “I have been observing you. I feel you are not happy about this. There is no need for you to be cautious? “Oh really. Good because I am not concerned, angry or panicked. ” “I can see that in you. I don’t see any negative personal traits, disorders or uncommon stressors which could lead to a problem behavior or some condition which could lead to any substandard performance on your part. I’ll tell you what I see. You are highly capable of operating this ship as Captain. You are effective and able to function up to the standards of the department. You also have no residual disabilities despite the situation you experienced with ANNA 6 some time ago.” “Well that’s good Dr. anything else? “ “You’re not late for shifts, don’t seem fatigued or in physical distress, absent-minded or distracted. And there is no evidence of abuse.” “All this sounds good Dr. but there must be something concerning you? What is it?”
By this time, Dr. Rense soth more accuracy of the information she obtained from Mac, to maximize the entire validity of this evaluation. She would know when Mac was faking it. So hoping Mac would do his best and tell the truth, Dr. Rense pressed on. With her goal not to demean or humiliate Mac, even though there were tough questions to be asked, she needed to know what he was feeling. Her behavioral observations of Mac’s body language, eye contact, voice tone and speech content provided useful information. How Mac answered questions would be just as important as what he said. If he answered with anxiety, depressive responses, evasiveness, anger or with guilt, Dr. Rense must determine using her rapport with Mac and her one-on-one interpersonal interaction – his clinical status. Then after reviewing her previous records along with other psychological test findings, she could make the recommendations.
Mac never questioned Anna 7 about what she thought of their tandem program. He wondered why?
What is Anna’s true mission within the Consortium Triumpvirate?
