Dell Enters the Tablet Market With quotStreakquotDell announced Tuesday it’s going to type in the tablet market come july 1st having its new Streak device. The Streak tablet is quite a bit small compared to its iPad counterpart, though larger than your typical smartphone. Its functionality and buyer uniquely positions it among its peers — and may attract new consumers to several market.

Dell’s Streak tablet is geared towards active content producers even though the iPad is for entertainment, or passive consumption (think app games, movies, web surfing, etc). “The iPad would be the device which our parents use,” writes O’Reilly Radar’s Jason Grigsby. The Streak is designed for young, tech-savvy users that seek today experience such as the want another device.

Consider the amount of devices an Apple fanboy lugs around. Needless to say you’ll need a desktop or MacBook laptop, an iPhone and today an iPad tablet? That’s three expensive items of technology. The iPad isn’t a replacement either desktop or laptop — employed for work — or smartphone — used in voice and text communicating. It’s for entertainment: playing apps, watching video, light email communication, etc. The Streak, however, could eliminate the dependence on a smartphone.

The Streak tablet is definitely an upgrade with the standard. The normal smartphone screen is about 3″ so that it is hard to use for business or entertainment. Expanding the screen several inches provides more functionality and entertainment real estate property, with out sacrificing the potability and the communication capabilities of your smartphone (think emailing, blogging, voice, etc).

The Streak is portable such as a smartphone but provides the content producing capabilities of your computer. Unlike its counterparts, Streak users have voice, video recording and image capturing capabilities which has a larger display than typical smartphones. Actually, it is just slightly larger than a smartphone (Blackberry Storm has a 3.5″ display) having a 5″ screen versus the iPad’s 9.5″ display.

Directionally, Dell’s method is right. It’s actually not parroting Apple’s iPad to capture a slice of its audience. Instead, it’s going in a very different direction. Offering portability and…
